The authors provide sensitivity and specificity data for various height and weight measurements in children with slipped capital femoral epiphyses, with the goal of helping clinicians determine whether to investigate such children for underlying endocrinologic disorders, primarily hypothyroidism. Converting their sensitivity and specificity data to likelihood ratios (LRs) can make this decision easier. The formula for calculating the LR for a test with a positive result is sensitivity/(1-specificity), and the corresponding calculation for a negative test is (1-sensitivity)/specificity. . . .
