An Introduction to the AAP Grand Rounds Online CME System

The online version of AAP Grand Rounds includes an online continuing medical education (CME) component, available only to individual subscribers. Using this system, subscribers can:

Take the quizzes in the newsletter online;
Submit completed issues for CME credit, and receive confirmation of credit immediately via email;
Review the credit they've earned via AAP Grand Rounds Online via an individualized CME Summary Report.

Important Notes:

An entire issue must be completed before subscribers can submit quizzes for credit. There is no article-by-article credit.
This service is only available to subscribers. If you wish to subscribe, please click here.
Users will only have access for those years in which they had a subscription.

The Benefits of the AAP Grand Rounds Online CME System

Before the advent of AAP Grand Rounds Online, CME answer sheets were returned by subscribers for credit at the end of each subscription semester. Now, subscribers can complete the quiz for any issue in the current year at any time, and receive confirmation of credit immediately.

The benefits of the online system include:

A CME Summary page, containing the records of the issues submitted for credit, ongoing quizzes, and credits earned;
Immediate email confirmation of credit earned;
The ability to complete one issue at a time, as the year progresses, and submit and receive credit confirmation issue-by-issue.

In addition, each month's issue becomes available online throughout the world, without the delays that postal delivery can impose.

Using the Traditional AAP Grand Rounds CME Program

If you are using the paper newsletter exclusively, and wish to submit for CME credit, please use the AAP Grand Rounds Quiz Card received with your AAP Grand Rounds binder to record your answers. Each question has a single best answer. The answers to the questions appear on the inside front cover of each issue.

Expiration of Credit: December 31, 2010 for Volumes 18 and 19 (2008 publishing year). Credit for completing 2008 AAP Grand Rounds will be awarded for up to 3 years. Credits will be posted to the year in which they are submitted.

Verification of Credit: You will receive an e-mail message verifying the CME credit you have earned through AAP Grand Rounds.

CME Credit Deadlines

AAP Grand Rounds Quiz Card

If you need to earn CME credit for the AAP Grand Rounds quizzes in 2008, you must complete each quiz before January 31, 2009. You may earn up to 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for each issue completed. You do not need to complete all of the issues in order to earn CME credit; you will be given credit only for those issues you choose to complete.

When you have completed each quiz, fill in the appropriate section on the Quiz Card (included with the January issue), and return it to the AAP. Your Quiz Card must be received by the AAP by January 31, 2009.

AAP Grand Rounds Online

If you need to earn CME credit for the AAP Grand Rounds quizzes in 2008, you must complete each quiz before December 31, 2008. You may earn up to 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ for each issue completed. You do not need to complete all of the quizzes in order to earn CME credit; you will be given credit only for those quizzes you choose to complete.

When you have completed all of the quizzes for a particular issue, you must submit the issue for CME credit via the Internet. If you are not sure if you have submitted completed issues for CME credit, you may access your CME Summary page by clicking on the "My CME" button on the AAP Grand Rounds home page. If you have submitted an issue for CME credit, your CME Summary page will indicate you received up to 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for that issue.

Issues submitted for CME credit online on or before December 31, 2008 will be recorded in 2008. Issues submitted for CME credit online on or after January 1, 2009 will be recorded in 2009.

The American Academy of Pediatrics CME/CPD Award recognizes Academy Fellows and Candidate Fellows who earn a minimum of 150 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ over 3 consecutive years through AAP sponsored or approved CME activities.
